Babylon

Tuesday marks the 158th birthday of archaeologist Robert Koldewey, discoverer of ancient Babylon and the foundations of the Tower of Babel!

The earliest mention of Babylon is in a dated tablet of the reign of Sargon of Akkad (2334-2279 BCE – that means he was born 4,347 years ago!), who is stated to have built sanctuaries there.
